Humandia developed a Situational Judgment Test (SJT) for Medela

Medela is a leading company in developing and manufacturing medical devices that support breast feeding and employs circa 1700 people in 19 countries worldwide. Medela products are sold in over 100 countries. Currently, Medela is aiming at establishing a cultural change within the company. With this, Medela also defined new corporate behaviours that fits their new culture well.

Situational Judgment Test

In order to measure these newly defined behaviours, Humandia developed a Situational Judgment Test (SJT) for Medela. In this test, the Medela core behaviours are translated into 18 test items to capture the desired cultural behaviour. For each core behavioural element, a hypothetical situation is presented to a participant (e.g. a new recruit) and then 4 answers are defined in multiple choice format. The participant needs to pick the answer that suits his/her own values the best. In other words: what would he or she do in such a similar situation as is described? Like this, it is assessed if the values of the candidate fit the cultural values of Medela.

Implementation

The test has now been implemented for recruitment as well as development purposes. With this it is more than just test: It is a very applicable and valid assessment tool to drive the cultural change that Medela currently is facing.
